Adamed Pharma has unveiled a long-term development plan for its manufacturing site in Riells i Viabrea, Spain. Integrating the facility into the company’s production network is expected to double its manufacturing capacity and strengthen the security of medicine supplies in Europe.
At the same time, Adamed continues to expand its manufacturing operations in Poland. A new inhaled-medicine manufacturing facility is under construction in Pabianice, with the first products expected to reach the market in 2029.
Adamed acquired the Riells facility from Sanofi on 1 July 2026. The site employs more than 260 people and has the capacity to produce up to 4 billion tablets annually. It currently produces approximately 60 million packs of medicines each year, which are shipped to 84 countries worldwide.
More manufacturing sites mean greater security of supply
The Riells facility specialises in large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing and will strengthen Adamed’s international production network. The company’s facilities in Poland, Spain and Vietnam have different functions and areas of expertise that complement one another, increasing the resilience of the entire manufacturing network.
“An additional manufacturing site for selected products gives us greater flexibility and reduces the risk of supply disruptions. We are developing the facility in Spain alongside our investments in Poland and Vietnam, which will enable Adamed to achieve an annual production capacity of approximately 10 billion tablets by 2029,” says Bartłomiej Rodawski, Member of the Management Board and Chief Operating Officer of Adamed Pharma.
The importance of this approach has become clear in recent years, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the war in Ukraine. Between 2022 and 2024, EU Member States reported 136 cases of critical medicine shortages.
Poland remains Adamed’s key manufacturing hub
Poland remains a key location for Adamed’s manufacturing, technological development and research activities. Between 2020 and 2030, the company plans to invest approximately PLN 1.5 billion in Poland, primarily in Pabianice.
Since 2020, Adamed has invested approximately PLN 760 million in Poland. More than PLN 500 million has been allocated to developing its Pabianice site, including manufacturing and packaging facilities, warehousing, robotics and laboratories.
Between 2026 and 2030, Adamed plans to invest a further approximately PLN 700 million in Poland. One of the most significant projects is the construction of a new inhaled-medicine manufacturing facility in Pabianice, representing an investment of approximately PLN 300 million. The first products are expected to be manufactured there in 2029.
“We have been manufacturing and investing in Poland for 40 years, and we will continue to expand our domestic production capacity. Over the past five years, we have increased medicine production by 75%. At the same time, we are expanding our manufacturing network across several locations. In the current geopolitical climate, this strengthens the security of supply for patients and makes the company more resilient to crises,” says Małgorzata Adamkiewicz, MD, PhD, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board and Co-owner of Adamed Pharma.
The Riells facility strengthens the Polish company’s capabilities
Adamed’s total investment in acquiring and expanding the Riells facility will exceed EUR 100 million. Investments planned for 2026–2034 include modernising the facility’s machinery and IT infrastructure, expanding warehousing capacity, automating logistics processes and implementing environmental improvements.
During the initial years, the facility will continue manufacturing medicines for Sanofi to ensure continuity of supply. At the same time, Adamed will gradually introduce its own products at Riells and increase utilisation of the site’s available capacity.
Some medicines will be manufactured at both the Polish and Spanish facilities. The Polish sites will continue supplying the domestic market, among others, while the Riells facility will increase the company’s capacity to serve international markets. This diversified manufacturing model will strengthen supply security and help ensure continuity of medicine supplies to patients.
Adamed Pharma is an international pharmaceutical and biotechnology company wholly owned by Polish shareholders.
Today, 44% of Adamed’s revenue comes from international sales, generating approximately PLN 1 billion annually. Over the past five years, the company has nearly tripled its sales outside Poland. Its growing exports contribute to Poland’s trade balance and strengthen the company’s position in global markets.
