Mabion and WPD Pharmaceuticals advance their partnership to develop innovative biologics and targeted cancer therapies

PublishedOctober 13, 2026

Mabion S.A., a Polish biotechnology company specializing in the development and manufacture of biological products, announced that it has entered into a letter of intent with WPD Pharmaceuticals S.A. (“WPD”). The purpose of the agreement is to enter into detailed negotiations and establish a binding framework for strategic cooperation in the development of innovative biological oncology drugs based on targeted therapies.

The planned activities aim to combine the complementary expertise, research resources, and experience of both partners, as well as to define the optimal organizational and business model for future projects.

The collaboration involves Mabion leveraging WPD’s scientific and research resources and know-how, combined with the company’s expertise in technology development, advanced analytics, and the manufacture of biological products in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

One of the planned areas of collaboration is the development of manufacturing technologies and the production of a WPD therapeutic product under GMP standards for Phase I/II clinical trials in specific oncology indications.

Another key element of the planned partnership is the field of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), which represents one of the key areas of development for modern targeted therapies. Expanding cooperation in this segment will allow both companies to evaluate opportunities for jointly leveraging their respective expertise and projects as part of a broader program for the development of biological medicinal products.

WPD Pharmaceuticals develops oncology projects by leveraging scientific and research resources and collaborating with Wake Forest University Health Sciences, a U.S. institution based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. WPD has licensing agreements with this institution and conducts joint research on oncology drugs, which constitutes a key component of the partner’s scientific and technological infrastructure.

Mabion brings to the planned collaboration experience in the development and manufacture of biological products, analytical expertise, and infrastructure enabling the execution of projects in accordance with the quality standards required for products developed for clinical trials.

Expanding our collaboration with WPD Pharmaceuticals is another significant step in implementing our strategy to develop and strengthen Mabion’s capabilities in the field of modern biological therapies, particularly ADC projects. We aim to combine our expertise in technology development, analytics, and the manufacture of biological products with our partner’s research and development potential and projects. This current phase will allow us to thoroughly assess the capabilities of both organizations and develop a collaboration model that meets both the development needs of the projects and the business objectives of the companies. We see this as an opportunity to further leverage our technological infrastructure, expand our activities in the field of innovative oncology therapies, and build long-term value for Mabion
Gregor Kawaletz, Chief Executive Officer of Mabion S.A.

In accordance with the signed letter of intent, the next step will be a detailed assessment of the capabilities, resources, and projects of both companies, including mutual audits and an analysis of financial and legal matters (due diligence). On this basis, the parties intend to develop an optimal structural and organizational model for the joint development program and then agree on the terms of the intended cooperation within the framework of a Cooperation Agreement.

The planned partnership creates an opportunity to expand Mabion’s activities in the field of developing biological oncology drugs, particularly ADC projects carried out under a partnership model.

In the long term, this collaboration may contribute to increasing the company’s involvement in projects at subsequent stages of development and to the further utilization of its research and manufacturing capabilities. The specific scope of the projects, the implementation model, and the terms of cooperation will be determined during ongoing negotiations.

The expansion of the partnership with WPD is consistent with Mabion S.A.’s Development Strategy for 2025–2030, which calls for expanding operations in the B2B segment and strengthening the company’s presence in growth markets through projects carried out under a partnership model.

This initiative also aligns with Mabion’s efforts to evaluate and develop the potential of MabionCD20 in new indications, forming part of a broader approach to expanding the company’s project portfolio and capabilities.
