Czech Technical University and Prague Military University Hospital expand collaboration

PublishedOctober 14, 2026

The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague (FBMI CTU) and the Central Military Hospital – Military University Hospital Prague (ÚVN) are expanding their long-standing collaboration in education and scientific research.

The two institutions have established a joint unit, the Clinic of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, bringing together advanced clinical practice, higher education and applied research in modern imaging techniques.

The new clinic builds on the successful collaboration between the two institutions and provides a framework for systematically integrating clinical practice with teaching, research and technological development. Its aim is to advance diagnostic and interventional radiology at the intersection of modern medicine and biomedical engineering, responding to the growing importance of medical imaging in healthcare.

The clinic will provide practical and theoretical training for students enrolled in accredited degree programmes at FBMI CTU, particularly the Radiological Assistance programme. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern diagnostic technologies and learn about the day-to-day operations of a healthcare facility. The clinic will also supervise degree theses, support doctoral studies and develop continuing education opportunities for healthcare professionals.

Scientific research will be a key part of the clinic’s activities, focusing on imaging techniques, medical image processing, the application of artificial intelligence in diagnostics, radiation protection and the integration of advanced technologies into clinical practice. The clinic will actively participate in national and international research projects and strengthen collaboration with academic institutions, healthcare providers and industry partners.

In clinical practice, the clinic will provide specialist diagnostic imaging services, including conventional radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and interventional radiology. Particular emphasis will be placed on the quality of care, patient and staff safety, and the use of state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures.

The long-term ambition of the joint clinic is to become a leading national academic and clinical centre for medical imaging, making a significant contribution to the development of education, scientific research and healthcare in the Czech Republic.
