In October, a delegation from the Department of Science and Technology of Sichuan Province, China, led by Deputy Director-General Liu Jurong and including researchers and representatives from the Chengdu–Chongqing region, visited BSRC Alexander Fleming to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration in life sciences, biotechnology and biomedicine.
BSRC Alexander Fleming is a Greek research centre that conducts cutting-edge research into the molecular mechanisms underlying complex biological processes in health and disease. It also aims to contribute to medical innovation by developing novel therapeutic and diagnostic approaches, with a focus on immunity and inflammation, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
The visit took place within the framework of the newly established Greece Node of the Chengdu–Chongqing Belt and Road International Technology Transfer Center (BRTTC), a bilateral initiative designed to strengthen innovation and technology transfer links between Greece and China.

Chinese co-builders STEC and Zhongxihui have identified biotechnology and biomedicine as priority areas for the Greece Node, demonstrating their commitment to advancing the partnership with Greek research institutions, clinical centres and the wider innovation ecosystem.
During the visit, the delegation was welcomed by Dr Panayotou, a researcher at the Institute for Bioinnovation at BSRC Alexander Fleming, who presented the Centre’s research activities, advanced laboratory infrastructure and biomedical technologies.
Discussions focused on moving beyond conventional academic exchange towards substantive, mutually beneficial cooperation. Both sides explored initial opportunities for joint research programmes, shared technology transfer pathways and investment mechanisms linking the Chengdu–Chongqing region with Greece’s scientific network.
Further discussions are expected to help translate these exchanges into concrete framework agreements and collaborative research initiatives.
