Three international companies interested in Pfizer Catania site, says MIMIT

Three international companies have expressed interest in exploring the reindustrialisation of Pfizer’s plant in Catania, following a request by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to identify a solution that would secure the site’s future production activities and protect the 330 workers affected by the dispute.

The development was announced at a meeting convened by MIMIT and chaired by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

“We asked Pfizer to explore every possible avenue to safeguard the Catania site’s future production activities. Today, we are seeing the first tangible result in this direction,” Urso said. “The interest shown by the three companies and the commitments made by Pfizer open up new prospects.

“We will work to turn these prospects into a solid industrial project, safeguarding both the workers and the expertise at the plant,” he added.

In light of these commitments, Pfizer has agreed not to proceed with the closure of the affected production lines, including beyond 31 October, until MIMIT has completed its detailed assessment with the three companies of the reindustrialisation options and the associated employment guarantees.
