PublishedSeptember 8, 2026

A new Cardiovascular Surgical Center has been completed at the Târgu Mureș Institute of Emergency Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation following an investment of more than €150 million through Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The project is a major investment in Romania’s healthcare system and strengthens Târgu Mureș as an important center for cardiovascular treatment.

The new building covers almost 19,400 square meters. It brings together medical services that were previously located in different parts of the Târgu Mureș County Emergency Clinical Hospital.

The new center includes:

  • 219 beds, including 214 for patients staying in hospital and 5 for day treatment;
  • 4 operating rooms, including one hybrid operating room;
  • an intensive care unit (ICU);
  • cardiology and cardiovascular surgery services;
  • pediatric cardiology;
  • modern medical laboratories;
  • medical imaging services;
  • a sterilization unit;
  • a pharmacy and other facilities needed for advanced medical care.

The new center is expected to make medical services easier to organize and improve working conditions for doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff.

For patients, the facility will provide more modern and better-equipped spaces for the treatment of serious and complex heart conditions.

The project is also expected to improve access to advanced cardiovascular care for people from Mureș County, the wider region and other parts of Romania.
