As part of the healthcare reform, Digital Health Denmark is being established as a new national organisation designed to strengthen digital development and ensure greater coherence across the healthcare sector.
Digital Health Denmark will bring together sundhed.dk, the Danish Health Data Authority, MedCom, the National Genome Centre, and a number of regionally managed national IT solutions. Certain selected functions and regulatory responsibilities of the Danish Health Data Authority will remain within the Ministry of the Interior and Health to support the ministry’s responsibilities.
The new organisation will be established on 1 January 2027 and will be jointly owned by municipalities, regions and the state.
This means that sundhed.dk, the Danish Health Data Authority and MedCom will cease to exist as independent organisations on 31 December 2026.
Effective from 1 January 2026, the organisations will be gathered under a central management referred to as Preparatory Digital Health Denmark.
Health IT and data brought together in one organisation
Digital Health Denmark will bring together key resources to turn needs and experience into digital solutions that work in everyday life – and that make a tangible difference for citizens as well as healthcare professionals.
The organisation will build on decades of experience and collaboration, taking the next step towards a more coherent and user-friendly digital infrastructure.
The aim is to ensure equal access, greater cohesion and the effective use of health data across the healthcare system, regardless of where citizens are or when they need care.
In short: Digital Health Denmark will strengthen digital development in healthcare and accelerate the dissemination of shared digital solutions and infrastructure across the sector.
