Odense University Hospital is expanding the number of treatments and healthcare services that can be provided outside the hospital, with the aim of bringing specialised care closer to patients’ homes.
More than 200 initiatives are already being offered across OUH’s departments, with further services planned. These include video consultations, allowing patients to avoid travelling to hospital for appointments that can be carried out remotely, either from home or during a short break at work.
The initiative extends beyond digital consultations. In some cases, patients can receive antibiotic treatment at home instead of being admitted to hospital.
Other patients can monitor and report their own health measurements from home, while some consultations are carried out in the patient’s home when this provides a better opportunity to assess their situation.
Odense University Hospital is also working with municipalities and general practitioners to develop new ways of delivering treatment closer to patients.
The aim is to make specialised hospital expertise more accessible while reducing unnecessary journeys to hospital.
