Two major hospital projects in Zadar and Dubrovnik are moving forward and could begin in 2027.
The projects will help modernise hospital facilities and improve healthcare services for patients. In Zadar, the planned Centre for Simulation, Innovation and Advanced Diagnostics is worth almost EUR 24 million and will bring together several important hospital services, including pathology and cytology, the hospital pharmacy, transfusion medicine and the blood bank. It will also include a scientific unit and a simulation centre for the training and professional development of healthcare staff.

The project is planned for 2027–2029 and will bring advanced diagnostics, research, healthcare education and modern medical technologies together in one location. The simulation centre will support the continuous professional development of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
The hospital also plans to modernise its logistics with robotic systems and a pneumatic tube system, which are expected to improve efficiency, patient safety and the quality of healthcare.
“In one location, we will bring together state-of-the-art diagnostics, scientific and research work, the education of healthcare professionals and the application of the most advanced medical technologies,” Čulina said.
“This project confirms our long-term development vision and represents an important step forward in the further development of Zadar General Hospital as a modern healthcare institution.”
In Dubrovnik, the reconstruction of the 5th and 6th floors of Dubrovnik General Hospital will create space for a day hospital and accommodation for external doctors who come to provide healthcare at the hospital.
“We would like to thank the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance and the Government of the Republic of Croatia for their support for this project,” said the Director of Dubrovnik General Hospital, Associate Professor Marijo Bekić, MD, PhD. “Through the reconstruction of the 5th and 6th floors, we will provide space for a day hospital, as well as appropriate accommodation for external doctors who come to provide healthcare at our institution.”
The project is expected to increase access to specialist services, reduce pressure on existing hospital capacity and improve healthcare for people in Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
“This will increase the availability of specialist services, relieve the pressure on existing capacities and further improve the quality of healthcare for the citizens of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik-Neretva County,” Bekić said.
Both projects have been assessed as ready for implementation from 2027 and are being considered for funding during the 2027–2029 budget period.
